Potting a yellow along cushion to knock another red into position to continue a break, there was no other shot on.

This was a fantastic pot I played in the first frame of my league match yesterday.
It was medium length pot along the cushion played with a trace of side and it knocked the red into a more potting position in order to continue the break.
Cushion shots look straightforward – but from distance they can actually look much harder. As long as you try to use cushion and ball first you have a good chance of potting them.
Note that these images are not to scale so you might have to mess around with the position of the yellow to get the exact shot but it was roughly in the position shown in the image.
I normally play these shots with a trace of side – as the side throws in – you can normally aim just off the normal cushion/ball theory and the side will adjust.
These kinds of shots can often come up in frames so practicing these is well worth it – as you never know what you might be able to do with them.
I like to practice trying to get tough balls off cushions in frames – it makes the frame much more straightforward in the long run if you get a chance to get into it.
Practicing shots on or just off the cushion is well worth the effort. They are tough, but if you practice them – then you will be a bit more confident in a match when they come up.
That is the point of the remarkable shots column – to make you aware of what shots may come up – some may come off, others may not. It just depends how the balls roll.
Enjoy your snooker…
