As the summer is in its peak and we’re rolling through the heatwaves, it’s time to grab a cool refreshing smoothie, and enjoy being refreshed by refreshing flavours inspired by some of the green smoothies of OKINAWA.
The Japanese are adding Green Tea to a lot of products recently, and so I decided to see if Green Tea was a good fit with a smoothie.
Here’s the inspiration from OKINAWA SMOOTHIES
These include:
🍈 Goya Rush — Okinawan bitter melon (goya) with pineapple, grapefruit, orange and orange juice.
🌿 Energy Boost — barley grass, green papaya, banana, pineapple and soy milk.
🥬 Stress Buster — Japanese mustard spinach, green papaya, green shiso, banana, and water.
Some of their smoothies have fruit or veg like bitter melon in them. As I haven’t got these to hand, ofcourse, I decided to use some ingredients I already had in the fridge, and also add green tea and see what the result was.
I first boiled up some green tea, and then let it cool.
I added bananas, choi sum, and cucumber into the blender. Once the green tea has cooled I poured that in. Added some milk and then 2 tablespoons of sugar to balance the bitterness of the other ingredients and some ice.
A nice refreshing summer drink inspired by the green recipe smoothies of OKINAWA…
