Your support is vital to get 6000…
The pressure on the Tunbridge Wells Council to save Victoria Snooker Centre from closing is mounting, but your support is vital to those involved to get the decision potentially overturned.
As snooker clubs – and indeed a variety of sports clubs – are facing the very real prospect of closures from the housing crisis in the UK and the continued rise of illegal immigrants and people crossing the channel in illegally – something which is increasing the pressure – there’s a renewed effort to ensure that cue sports and sports in general do not suffer the brunt of failed government policy in the UK.
It’s not the fault of snooker clubs and sports clubs that there is very little housing in the UK to support people – but, where are the youngsters, and, indeed, the entire community going to hang out if the likes of social clubs, snooker clubs and sports clubs are continually redeveloped or bulldozed?
It’s a catch 22. People need social outlets for the community – as well as places to live.
The clubs are not just there for people to play sport – they’re there to serve the community – for people to hang out – chat – and of course play sports they love – either for fun or seriously – but either way, they need to exist for all.
On Change.org, it reads: “A design team is currently preparing plans for a planning application due in Easter 2026, with construction proposed for early 2027. This petition calls on the Council to reconsider and protect this irreplaceable, family-run community asset.|”
It adds: “Snooker clubs across the UK are under threat of closure and this would be another devastating loss despite the sport’s increasingly global appeal. Snooker, pool and darts are inclusive sports that everyone can enjoy and the club is a lively place to play, compete, see live exhibitions and socialise.”
They need 6,000 signatures to potentially get the discussions they need with the Council.
