World Seniors Snooker Championship Starts Next Month…

AFTER the drama of The Cazoo World Snooker Championship 2024 ends in a couple of week’s time, 16 of the best World Seniors will take to the same stage to contest the World Seniors Championship at Sheffield’s Home of Snooker.

The Mr Vegas World Seniors Championship begins on the 8th May and ends on the 12th.

Seniors winner and all-time favourite Jimmy White will defend his title again this year – having won it last year – as 16 players from eight different countries contest the draw this time around.

World Women’s Senior Champion player Tessa Davidson is the one woman in the draw, (we’ve interviewed Davidson on this site before) and there’s also a great turnout for the Irish players, including Michael Judge and Rodney Goggins with 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty leading the field.

Davidson has scooped many good events this year, including 4 Winchester Women’s Series as well as the World Women’s Seniors events on the Women’s Tour.

Dechawat Poomjaeng, who has been a real character on the snooker circuit, and famous for losing a frame on the 3 miss rule, is also in action as well as the Thai Legend James Wattana.

As with the main event which has just started, you can expect the unexpected and there is always plenty of drama at the Theatre of Dreams.

Tyson Crinis also represents Australia as the 41-year-old Asian Pacific winner. The great line-up also includes Andrew Norman, a two-time English Amateur finalist and Barry Pinches, who made a ton at last year’s Snooker Legends 900. Series 2.

The first-round draw is completed by Pan-American Seniors champion Igor Figueiredo taking on World Women’s Snooker Seniors champion Tessa Davidson – with the winner set to potentially meet ‘The Whirlwind’ in the quarter-finals should he make it that far.

First-round matches will take place on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 May, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals taking place on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May before the Mr Vegas World Seniors Championship final takes place on Sunday 12 May.

The tournament will be held in Sheffield at snooker’s most iconic venue for the sixth consecutive year and will be broadcast live on Channel 5 in the UK for the first time.

Good luck to everyone who competes in the World Seniors Snooker Championship.
