The first league game of 2022 saw WOKING C notch up yet another win as the Byfleet League Division 2 returned after the Christmas and New Year break on Thursday, January 6th.
Despite the ongoing worries of the new coronavirus variant Omicrom, and the fear of potential restrictions being reintroduced after the New Year period, which in the end look like they won’t be for the time being, it was business as usual for the League.
Playing at home at Woking Snooker Centre, Woking C turned on a comprehensive win over Lightwater Village Club A 5 – 1 and are racing ahead at the top of the table with 60 points.
Second are Walton Comrades B, lagging behind with 43.
Captain Ivan Astin’s team remain remarkably unbeaten at home as the season slowly draws to a close with just four games remaining before February 3rd.
Their star player Peter Butler, still on top with the highest break of the division this season, a 63, wasn’t on show, but Bill Lee, who’s played for a second week running, won both matches with just the Captain losing the one frame.
Ivan Astin said Bill Lee is now a regular member of the team.
It seems unlikely that Woking C will slip up from now until the end of the season as it is now theirs to lose now.
The Woking C matches remaining are, with one potential BYE, include:
- New Haw Social C
- Hersham Sports Social A
- West Byfleet Social D is the final game on February 3rd
