Woking C Sitting Pretty in Byfleet Snooker League…

WOKING C’s iron grip at the top of the Byfleet Snooker League was secured with yet another win yesterday.

With just one loss out of 6 matches, which was their very first game of the season since the League began on September 23rd, Ivan Astin’s team are sitting pretty at the top on 26 points, as they secured a 4 – 2 win over New Haw Social C on Thursday.

Trailing by 11 points is New Haw Social C with 15.

Although Woking C won the match, Captain Ivan Astin was a little disappointed with how some of the frames panned out and thought that the other side was getting the rub of the green more.

He added: “We lost ground last night, they were so lucky in the frames they won.”

However, with 12 games still to play by the end of January, it’s still all to play for.

In a previous meeting at Home at Woking Snooker Centre, Ivan Astin wrote on Facebook: “What a way to bounce back from a first-game loss. 24 frames have been up for grabs in the last 4 weeks since then and my team has grabbed 20 of those. We are noticeably growing from strength to strength and the confidence is now sky high in the group. My man Peter Butler is on 100 % win rate as expected in my eyes, but the team have made this.

Here’s a quick lowdown on frames lost and won by Woking C…

Ivan Astin  wins 6  – lost 4
Adam Hill  7 wins  lost 3
Ivan Monchukoushvy 5 wins lost 3

Woking C player Peter Butler has a 100% win record, having played 7 and lost 0 frames.

Last week, Woking C were featured in a short piece in the Woking News and Mail along with Woking Snooker Centre and the League as it was reported how well local snooker in Surrey had bounced back from the last 18 months or so when snooker clubs had to be shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was reported that despite there naturally being predicted a slump in take-up of people wanting to play in the League for various reasons, uptake for people wanting to return to play snooker was still positive.
