Ultimate Pool Pairs Cup Finals Night on 31st Jan 2022 Set to be a Cracker…

DECLAN BRENNAN AND RONAN MCCARTHY sailed into the final week of the Eative Ultimate Pool Pairs Cup on Monday.
After 20 weeks of spellbinding and spine-tingling drama in group stages and the last 16 stages, one more pair had the chance to make it into the finals of the 21-week marathon event – and it wasn’t the favourites of the group – the no 1 Ultimate Pool player Shane Thompson and his legend partner the 2 times World Champion Tom Cousins.
Instead, it was the third favourites of the group Declan Brennan and Ronan McCarthy who breezed through all three matches with three great wins to book a place in finals night next Monday.
But in week 21, they will face yet another tough task as they will play in the semi-finals the pairing of legends Mick Hill and Phil Harrison in what is set to be a cracker of a line-up for the final week of the tournament.
In what was the only drama of the night, the second favourites Shaun Storry & Chris Day kept their hopes alive with a 4-1 win over the Scots. But the main focus in the second session was the clash between the two previous winners. Both teams led, but it was the 12-time NI national champion McCarthy who would have the final say, getting his skates on to clear up the table in frame five with just seconds left to record a vital 3-2 victory for his side.

After the win, Ronan McCarthy told the Ultimate Pool team when playing the likes of top players in this format: “You just can’t afford to miss. You need to play perfect pool!”
And perfect pool they did throughout their three matches.
Andy Appleton & Michael Tomlinson will play Shaun Chipperfield & Karl Sutton in the other last four tie, with the winners then facing each other later in the evening in the final.
As usual, the finals will be held on Freesports in the UK and on the Ultimate Pool website.
