Trump Not Ruling Out More Pool in Future…

WITH a lull in the snooker calendar, Judd Trump decided to test his skills on a smaller table by journeying to America to Atlantic City where he certainly made a name for himself there…

JUDD TRUMP’S odyssey in the US Open is finally over as the 32-year-old former World Snooker Champion lost in the double-elimination round to Jason Theron of South Africa in a nail-biting final decider 11 – 10.

For Trump, he certainly wasn’t there to make up the numbers as he pointed earlier on in his Matchroom interviews.

When he eventually leaves America, and travels back to familiar shores to resume the snooker season, he may well have learned a few more tricks that he can put into practice on the World Snooker Tour.

His experience in America was not just to compete on the US Open event, but to elevate the profile of snooker to an audience who are more at home seeing balls potted on a smaller table than on a 12ft by 6ft billiard table.

The prestigious US Open Pool Championship, which dates back to the mid-1970s, is played under a double-elimination format until the round of 16, so Trump had one more opportunity to manoeuvre his way through the bracket.

As SnookerZone said in a previous post, Trump gets to play back on familiar territory when he travels to Seattle to compete in a snooker exhibition at OX Billiards over the weekend on the bigger table where fans will get to meet and greet and even play a frame with the former World Champion.

What will be interesting will be to see how many other snooker players from the modern era get tempted to play in the Matchroom pool series as there were murmurings from SightRight’s Stephen Feeney on Facebook that some of the SightRight stable of players could well end up in a pool event in future.

The big UK Open in 2022 in London may well be a very interesting event indeed…
