A new Season of the Byfleet and District Snooker League began this week…
After a tough long one year and a half of the Coronavirus pandemic, the local snooker league returned to the Byfleet District and Snooker League in Surrey this week on Thursday, as the campaign gets going for weeks ahead in 2021/22.
There are three divisions in the league this season, with teams from around the local area beyond Woking.
This season, Woking has pitched three teams in the League with an A, B, C from Woking Snooker Centre as the base for home matches.
For the first time, Woking C team played in the League with 30-year-old Ivan Astin as the Captain of the C team, who’s also been a regular at the new Woking Snooker Centre handicap tournaments and even got to a final there.
Woking C lost 4 – 2 to the Staines Con team but the frame results were close affairs.
Captain Ivan Astin of the C team gave the first Captain’s assessment on Facebook: “Very proud of my guys tonight. Yes, we lost 4 – 2, but it’s our first week in league snooker away from home. We walk away knowing we’re better players and we win another day. But we all suffered from first week nerves.Very happy to have Adam, Pete and Ivan on this journey.
He added: “I still back us to be in contention near the end of the season.”
