The revolutionary 2022 Ultimate Pool Amateur Championship will get underway on Friday 25th March this week.
64 amateurs will compete for a winning prize pot of £4000 in a first for amateur pool as it’s set to be televised from the last 16 onwards on Freesports, the home of 8 ball which ends Sunday 27th.
This is a first for the sport as never before has an ALL amateur player event been televised.
There is bound to be plenty of drama with matches a race to eight under a match clock time conditions.
There’s a mixture of familiar names in the 8 ball world, and some in other cue sports, who have all thrown their hats in the ring.
Former snooker professional and world ranking event finalist Jamie Burnett, three-time Mosconi Cup winner Mark Gray and former European blackball champion Ryan Fleming are set to compete as are some familiar names already on the Challenger Series such as Tony Blount, Phil Parkin, among others.
Burnett, 46, is famous for making history in snooker in 2004.
From Wikipedia…
During the qualifying stages of the 2004 UK Championship, he was the first player to complete a break of over 147 in a professional match playing against Leo Fernandez. After being awarded a free ball, Burnett took the brown as an extra red, then a brown, then added 15 reds and 12 blacks, two pinks and a blue. He then potted the colours to complete a 148 break. He afterwards commented, “I didn’t really know how to react afterwards. At first I thought it was no big deal, but then I realised I’d made history.
