The English Partnership of Snooker and Billiards (EPSB) and clubs across the country will be hosting the 2021 summer camps as kids can try out the game for just £1.

Woods coaches in Cousins Snooker Club in London as the clubs begin the summer snooker sessions at the end of JULY every Monday.

John Woods told SnookerZone: “This scheme is being run by EPSB and so it’s really up to them whether they continue it. But I would certainly think so. They ran it as a national scheme 2 years ago and it would have been held last year but for the pandemic. Junior schemes like this are great for coaches like me to highlight the clubs and schemes we are running already.”

He added on the coaching sessions and how important it is to keep kids interested…

He said: “I run a lot of junior clubs and activities around London. Of course there are some that only attend once or twice or who lose interest, but by running regular clubs and giving them tournaments and other activities, it helps to keep them motivated. The social side of it is big as well. I try to include the parents and make my clubs a real family and friends’ situation.

Woods got into snooker when he was 5 years old and since then was hooked on snooker and got into playing Pro-Am events. He also took part in World Championship qualifying twice in his career.

He passed the WPBSA coaching course in 2010 and set up his own business, Gone2pot snooker.

Said Woods: “Cousins is one of several clubs in London that I work with. I cover both of their clubs in Holloway and Edmonton. I also run a regular junior club at the Hurricane room clubs in Kings Cross and Colindale.”
