Dream Team Selby and Potts Breeze Through Pairs Cup 2022…

FOUR-TIMES WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPION Mark Selby and multiple World Pool Champion Gareth Potts breezed through all three of their matches in Monday’s Ultimate Pool Pairs Cup.

Although the World Snooker Calendar for 2022/23 appears thin on the ground, some of snooker’s top professionals are turning to other cue sports and the growing Ultimate Pool circuit to stop gap the drought of events on the WST – mainly due to China and how it’s dealing with the Covid pandemic in its country.

Selby and Potts narrowly came through last season’s Pairs Cup in a dramatic three-way six-red shootout, but this time the dynamic duo breezed through with no such problems.

Heading into the final fixture of the evening, it was a bit of déjà vu for Potts & Selby who were in this exact same position last year. On that occasion, they lost their last match, forcing them to later come through a memorable three-way 6-red shootout – the first in history.

This time, though, there was to be no such frolics, as they registered a 4-1 success which included a scotch doubles reverse clearance in the first frame and a superb break clearance from Selby in the second.

Selby, who scooped a World Pool title in 2006, has apparently been recovering from a neck injury but seems to be on the mend.

The Ultimate Pool Pairs Cup rolls on for another 21-week run as we’re heading into Group 10 next week and nearly half the way through.

Snooker’s Pistol Mark Allen is going to be in action later this week in the Ultimate Pool Players Championship.

Live and exclusive on ultimatepool.tv, the six-time ranking event winner is set to feature in group five of the unique 48-player Ultimate Pool professional ranking event.

Allen has been placed in an intriguing six-player group, and will face arguably the greatest small table 8-ball pool player of all-time – reigning six-time world champion Michael Hill!
