Brennan and McCarthy Destroy Field in Week 3 of New 2022 Pairs Cup…

The Destroyer Declan Brennan and his pairs partner Ronan McCarthy breezed through week three of the popular Ultimate Pool event the Pairs Cup on Monday.

With three teams in the draw that were making their appearance on Freesports on TV for the first time, Brennan and McCarthy still had to produce the goods and they did exactly that in their first match of the night.

Finalists of the inaugural edition – where they were narrowly denied in a dramatic 6-red shootout to Karl Sutton and Shaun Chipperfield – the Northern Irish combination finished the night on maximum points following three wins from three.

So far, there have been no shocks in the Pairs Cup in the second edition.

It was all smiles beforehand as both the Irishmen were joking and bantering about their performances in last season’s Pairs Cup final, but they began where they left off from last season.

After winning two matches, the classy and entertaining duo still made it a hat-trick of victories with a 4-2 success over Duncan Saxton & Wayne Wootton to complete a very satisfactory evening’s work.

The Pairs Cup sees a mixture of amateurs and pros compete, some who are from County league systems and internationals. It gives amateurs the chance to see if they can perform at the top level on TV in a professional arena live on Freesports.

Next week, sees the dynamic duo of Team Blessed comprising Dom Cooney and Luke Gilbert, who will be up against some more tough opponents in what Steven Jamieson potentially called the group of death for Week four.

However, there are just three more weeks until four-times World Champion Mark Selby and Gareth Potts take to the stage in week six of the Pairs Cup and SnookerZone can’t wait!

Ultimate Pool new event from end of July 22…

In just a couple of weeks, a new Ultimate Pool event will hit your streams on the final weekend in July in the Ultimate Pool Players Championship and from then on until finals night in November.

The ultimatepool.tv Players Championship is a professional ranking event featuring 48 players in a unique format which is very different to other competitions already on the calendar.

Action takes place on just one main table, and all participants get at least five matches in the arena and in front of the live cameras, providing them with additional table time and exposure.

Across nine weekends until November, the concept was created and put forward by current Ultimate Pool professional Chris Day, and the tournament sees the 48 players split into eight groups of six during the opening phase.

These groups are played across separate weekends. On Saturdays, there will be a round-robin format (everyone plays each other once). These matches are races to six frames but with a 30-minute match clock. Players collect two points for a win and one point for a draw.

Dates for your diary on this one!

  • 30/31 July – Group 1
  • 6/7 August – Group 2
  • 13/14 August – Group 3
  • 20/21 August – Group 4
  • 3/4 September – Group 5
  • 10/11 September – Group 6
  • 17/18 September – Group 7
  • 24/25 September – Group 8
