Billiards: 2022 Irish Open Begins Today in New Academy…
The Irish Open for World Billiards begins today at the new Snooker and Billiard Academy in Carlow.
It runs from today until Sunday, 3rd April and then the World Matchplay runs until the 8th.
There are 10 groups from A – J for qualifying in the big Irish event.
On the website: For those who have traveled and took part in previous events at The Ivy Rooms in Carlow, the new venue is located nearby. It has four Star tables and four Shender tables which are kept in “championship condition”. We are looking forward to experiencing the great conditions during the events.

On Facebook, players have commented on the conditions at the new venue:
Rob Hall, whom SnookerZone interviewed a few weeks back, said: “Today is the 2022 World Billiards Irish Open commencing at the new SBA Academy in Carlow. It’s a tremendous venue with sublime playing conditions. A real treat for the players. This event runs for three days and is followed by the first major event since 2019.
He added: “I can’t wait to get on the baize and in amongst the action.”
